The weather in Haryana has taken a turn for the better, bringing relief to farmers and marking a shift in climatic conditions across the state. According to the latest updates from the Meteorological Department, several regions in Haryana have already experienced light rainfall, with more rain expected in the coming days.
IMD Issues Rainfall Alert for Haryana
Madan Kheechad, a weather scientist based in Hisar, shared insights into the upcoming weather conditions. A western disturbance approaching the region on December 26 is expected to bring widespread rainfall to Haryana on December 27 and 28. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain and mist for 16 districts of the state.
The recent drizzle recorded on the night of December 22 and during the day on December 23 set the stage for the current weather pattern. On December 24, sporadic light rainfall was witnessed in various areas, signaling the onset of the anticipated weather changes.
Farmers Celebrate Beneficial Weather
The showers have brought a wave of optimism among the farming community. Crops like wheat and mustard, which thrive on balanced moisture levels, are expected to benefit significantly from the rainfall. The light showers have improved soil moisture and are likely to enhance crop yields, bringing a much-needed boost to agricultural productivity.
Local farmers expressed joy, stating that the rain has come at an ideal time for the winter crops. A farmer from Karnal commented, “The rain is a blessing for our wheat and mustard crops. It will improve growth and ensure a better harvest.”
Rain to Persist for Two Days
The IMD Chandigarh office confirmed that Haryana will likely experience intermittent rainfall over the next two days. The rain is expected to be accompanied by foggy conditions, which could impact visibility in the mornings and evenings.
Meteorologists have advised caution for commuters traveling during early and late hours due to reduced visibility caused by mist and fog.
Districts Under Weather Alert
The yellow alert issued by the IMD covers 16 districts across Haryana. Among the districts expected to receive rainfall are Ambala, Karnal, Hisar, Jind, and Rohtak. The weather department has urged residents to stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions as visibility and road conditions might be affected.
Impact on Temperatures
The rainfall has also led to a dip in temperatures across the state. Daytime highs have dropped, while minimum temperatures have remained consistent, creating a pleasant and cool atmosphere. However, this drop in temperature is also expected to intensify the winter chill as the rainfall subsides.
Local meteorologists have noted that this weather system is typical for the season, with western disturbances bringing periodic rain to northern states like Haryana. The rains also contribute to replenishing groundwater levels and preparing the soil for the next agricultural cycle.
Farmers Look Forward to Optimized Harvests
The timely rainfall is being viewed as a significant factor in ensuring a fruitful harvest for rabi crops like wheat and mustard. Agricultural experts suggest that these showers will not only improve the health of crops but also reduce the need for irrigation, saving costs for farmers.
A farmer in Jind remarked, “This rain has lessened our dependence on tube wells for irrigation. We hope this weather continues to support our crops.”
As Haryana braces for two more days of rainfall, the farming community remains optimistic about the positive impact on agriculture. Meanwhile, residents are advised to prepare for cooler weather and potential disruptions in road travel due to fog.
The ongoing rainfall is a reminder of how crucial timely climatic changes are for agriculture, highlighting the delicate balance between nature and human livelihood in the region.
